Tetris – Arrange Falling Blocks and Clear Complete Lines
Tetris is a classic puzzle game where you must arrange falling blocks to create complete horizontal lines. Different shapes appear at the top of the playing area and move downward.
Your goal is to position the blocks carefully so they fit together without leaving too many empty spaces.
Whenever you complete a full row, the blocks disappear and you earn points.
The challenge becomes harder as the game continues because the pieces begin falling faster.
Learn the Seven Different Shapes
Tetris features seven block shapes.
Some look like straight lines, while others resemble squares, the letter T, or different corner shapes.
Every piece contains four small blocks connected together.
The shapes are commonly known as I, O, T, S, Z, J, and L.
Each one fits into the playing area differently.
A long piece can fill a narrow vertical opening, while a square needs a wider space.
You need to recognize these shapes and decide where they belong before they reach the bottom.
Move and Rotate the Falling Pieces
Tetris uses simple keyboard controls.
Press the Left and Right Arrow keys to move a falling piece sideways.
The Up Arrow rotates the shape, allowing it to fit into different spaces.
Press the Down Arrow to make the piece descend faster.
Many versions also allow you to press Space to drop the piece immediately.
The controls may vary slightly between different editions.
Try practicing how each shape rotates before attempting to clear several lines together.
Fill a Row to Make It Disappear
Your main goal is to complete horizontal rows.
A row disappears when every space across it contains a block.
The blocks above that row then move downward.
This gives you more room for new pieces.
You can clear one row at a time or arrange your blocks to remove several rows together.
Clearing four lines at once is called a Tetris.
This move usually provides a larger reward than clearing only one line.
Avoid Leaving Empty Gaps
One of the biggest challenges in Tetris is managing the space on the board.
A small empty gap can become difficult to fill when other blocks pile up above it.
Try arranging your pieces so the surface remains fairly even.
Look for shapes that fit naturally into the spaces you already have.
Avoid stacking tall columns without a plan.
You can also leave a narrow vertical opening for a long piece when preparing to clear several lines.
Keep Up with the Increasing Speed
The pieces begin falling faster as you progress through the game.
You have less time to decide where each shape should land.
Try looking at the upcoming piece when your version displays a preview.
This can help you prepare a suitable space before the next block appears.
The game ends when the stacked blocks reach the top and there is no room for another piece.
Beat Your Previous High Score
Tetris rewards quick thinking and careful planning.
Start by learning how the seven shapes fit together.
Try clearing ordinary rows before attempting more complicated combinations.
Keep enough space available for unusual pieces that may arrive next.
Tetris combines simple movement controls with an endless number of block arrangements. Every successful line clear helps you survive longer and work toward a higher score.
